Women's Soccer Returns Home with Saturday Tilt versus Colgate

The Mids and Raiders' series is tied at 19-19-7

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a run of five straight games away from the friendly confines of the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, the Navy women's soccer team is back home and on the hunt for its first Patriot League win of the season with bout versus Colgate on Saturday. Following a 7-3-1 open to its 2026 campaign against non-conference foes, the Mids (7-4-1, 0-1 PL) opened league play last weekend and came up just short on the road at Boston University as the Terriers pulled out a come-from-behind 2-1 decision. The Raiders (1-7-2, 0-1 PL) are also in search of their first point in league action as they also dropped a 2-1 result, at home versus Lafayette. Kickoff in Annapolis is set for 12-noon on Saturday.

The Navy-Colgate contest this weekend will have live stats provided online, as well as an accompanying ESPN+ broadcast. ESPN+ is a subscription-based streaming service that requires patrons to sign-up for monthly or yearly plans prior to tuning into the contest.

Most Recent Navy-Colgate Matchup: Sept. 26, 2025 in Hamilton, N.Y.
The Navy women's soccer team scored first on Friday night, but was unable to hold off Colgate in a road Patriot League contest as the Raiders came from behind for the 2-1 victory. The Mids (8-4, 1-1 PL) received an early goal by Kayana Adlam in the 13th minute before the Raiders (4-3-4, 1-0-1 PL) evened it in the 32nd minute and pulled ahead right after halftime in the 48th minute.

The action started out fast and furious as the teams combined for three shots on goal over the opening 100 seconds of play. Adlam and Chiara Cosenza tallied the Mids' shots on goal, while Natasha Stramrood denied Ellie Stokes' shot on goal for Colgate.

Stramrood's number continued to be called upon early and often as she was active off her line and deflected away a Bianca Howitt shot inside the box in the eighth minute before leaping up to her left to push an Anna Keeling attempt over the crossbar in the 11th minute.

Invigorated by their goalkeeper's stellar play, Navy was able to flip the field as less than two minutes after Stramrood's most recent save, Adlam put the Mids up 1-0 at 12:40. The goal scoring play began with a Marlee Heaven shot that ricocheted off a Colgate defender and forced the Raiders' Ella Poppinga into a diving save. With the ball still bouncing around the box, Adlam crashed onto it and banged home the goal.

A violent collision between Stramrood and Ari Bezanson in the 16th minute short-circuited the sophomore's fast start and saw her removed from the game due to an injury. Bezanson was shown a yellow card by the referee for her physical challenge.

Play slowed down a bit for the next 15 minutes with action in the midfield dominating. Colgate registered the only two shots of the contest; both off frame. The dynamic of the game changed when Bezanson put the Raiders' next shot in the back of the net at 31:05 to draw the score even.

Coming out of the locker room knotted at 1-1, the hosts immediately jumped out into the lead as Ana Schremp put home an Ellie Stokes shot that rang off the post at 47:01.

Just over seven minutes later, Navy nearly re-tied the contest with a quartet of high percentage looks over a span of eight seconds. Leading off the chaotic series of events was a Hannah Mulholland blast that Poppinga got a hand on. With the ball still alive inside the six-yard box, Cosenza put a shot on frame that was denied by a Colgate defender off the line via a team save before Jessica Black connected for a shot directly into another defender and Mulholland received a second opportunity, but saw her attempt sail over the crossbar.

Trailing by one, Black had a pair of shots on target that forced Poppinga into action over the next 10 minutes. Her shot in the 68th minute came after a superb individual effort saw her dribble through Colgate's defense up the right wing before unleashing a shot.

Unfortunately for the Mids, that attempt by Black was the visitor's final shot on goal as the Raiders tallied the final three shots on goal, all of which were denied by Talley Applewhite.

For the game, Colgate out-shot Navy, 21-17 with a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal. Applewhite made five saves in relief of Stramrood, while Colgate's Poppinga turned aside eight shots on goal.

Last Time Out: Saturday, Sept. 19 at Boston University
The 2026 Patriot League season opener was filled with highs and lows for the Navy women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as the visitors made a dramatic team save and immediately followed it up with go-ahead goal within the first 20 minutes of action versus Boston University before the host Terriers (4-5-1, 1-0 PL) flipped the script and scored twice in the final 20 minutes of play to earn the 2-1 victory over the Mids (7-4-1, 1-0 PL) at Nickerson Field.

Stella Jones and Chiara Cosenza provided the early fireworks for Navy as Jones was responsibility for deflecting away a no-doubt Boston goal in the 16th minute before assisting on Cosenza's one-timer shot and goal just four minutes later to give the Mids an early 1-0 lead. In goal on Saturday afternoon, junior Natasha Stramrood turned aside six Terrier shots on goal.

After a brief period of feeling each other out over the first 10 minutes of play, the action reached a fever pitch with the ball zipping up and down the artificial turf of Nickerson Field. The Terriers looked to break into the scoring column first off a corner kick opportunity and nearly did in the 16th minute as Helene Tyburczy's shot on goal was saved by Stramrood before Ciara Kennedy gathered the rebound and unleashed a shot that had eyes for the back of the net if not for the gutsy effort of Jones, who backed up her goalkeeper and used her body to deflect the attempt away from danger.

The Mids used that huge momentum swing to their favor and jumped into the lead less than four minutes later when Jones fed Cosenza for a one-time right-footed snipe into the far side of the net at 19:46.

Coming out of the locker room trailing by a goal, the host Terriers were locked in search of that game-tying tally, while the Mids were charged with holding onto the clean sheet against a squad that won the 2025 Patriot League Regular Season Championship. The tone was set early as Stramrood was called upon just 39 seconds into the second period to make a save on an attempt by Kat Slott. 17 minutes later in the 63rd minute of action, she once again denied Slott to keep it a 1-0 score in favor of Navy.

The Mids' first look at notching an insurance goal came in the 69th minute when Sophia Ryan sprinted into the box with the ball and ripped a shot straight for bottom right corner of the goal. At the last minute, Bridget Carr, the Terriers' goalkeeper dove to slow down the shot before a BU defender swept the loose ball away before it could trickle across the goal line.

The opportunity was unfortunately, Navy's only shot on goal in the second half as constant pressure by Boston made transitioning from defense-to-offense quite tricky for the Mids on Saturday. That fact also meant that Navy would be in complete defense-mode for the final 20 minutes of play. The Terriers were able to take advantage of possession-after-possession on the positive side of the pitch to eventually draw even in the 73rd minute on Kat Slott goal.

With the score knotted at 1-1, Stramrood did her best to earn her squad a hard-fought point in the league standings with three more saves in the ensuing 17 minutes, but her efforts went for naught as BU's fourth shot on goal of this final stretch of play found the back of the net courtesy of Georgia Prouty with just 33 seconds left in regulation.

For the game, BU out-shot Navy, 24-7 with a substantial 9-2 edge in shots on goal for the hosts. The Terriers also out-numbered the Mids in corner kick opportunities, 10-2 on Saturday.
