• Attended Sonora Union High School, where he earned two letters in football and wrestling
• Named second-team all-league as both a linebacker and offensive tackle during his senior year
• Helped the football team to a league title and sectional championship game as a senior
• Served as team captain of both squads as a senior
• Also named all-league in wrestling at 189 pounds in 2007
• Member of the sectional runner-up wrestling team during his senior season
