Gaddy Receives Mack Award For Navy Football

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Jeff Gaddy (Davidson, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), who will be a senior this fall, has been named the winner of the Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award as the most improved player during the 2001 spring football drills at the Naval Academy. He is just the third wide receiver to have won the award and the first since Shaun Stevenson in 1995.

"Jeff is a great athlete and one of the fastest players on the team," said Navy head football coach Charlie Weatherbie. "We are excited about his progress. He has good hands and has done an excellent job of learning the new system and then going out and performing in practice. We expect big things out of him this fall."

Gaddy, who played in 10 games last fall at cornerback, was moved to wide receiver at the start of spring drills and is listed as a starter heading into the fall. Gaddy showed his ability as a receiver in Navy's first scrimmage of the spring, catching five passes for 94 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown strike from Ed Malinowski.

The Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award is given annually to the Navy football player who has shown the most improvement in spring practice. The award was initiated in 1976 and is named in honor of Vice Admiral Mack, the Naval Academy superintendent from 1972-75, and a strong supporter of the school's intercollegiate athletic program.
