Navy Announces 2001 Sprint Football Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. ? The addition of a seventh game and a pair of meetings with arch-rival Army highlight the 2001 Navy sprint football schedule, announced today by second-year head coach Maj. Austin Renforth, USMC.

"We are very excited about having a seventh game," said Renforth of the schedule. "We usually play a half-dozen games, but Delaware Valley College was able to help us out."

The Midshipmen were 3-3 in Renforth's first season, including a 2-2 mark in Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) play.

Navy will open its season at home on Sept. 23, when it plays host to Delaware Valley. The following week, the Midshipmen will welcome Frostburg State to Rip Miller Field on the Naval Academy campus.

The Mids will then take to the road for four of their remaining five games, starting with a pair of neutral-site games against Army and Cornell. The 19th-annual Anthracite Bowl against Army will take place on Oct. 6 in Blue Mountain, Pa., while the following week (Oct. 14), Navy opens its four-game CSFL schedule when they square off against Cornell in the Pride Bowl in Newark, N.J. Navy's final home game of the year will be played on Oct. 26, when the Mids play host to Princeton at Rip Miller Field.

Navy will face two of its biggest tests of the year in its final two games of the season. The Mids will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to square off with defending CSFL champion Pennsylvania on Nov. 3, before playing the annual N-Star game at Army on Nov. 9.
