Navy Rifle Continues Season at VMI Saturday
The 2002-03 Navy rifle team (1-0) will continue its season with a match Saturday at 8 a.m. at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The Mids picked up a 6,113-6,109 victory over Norwich last Saturday in their season-opening match. In the smallbore, Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) paced the team with a score of 1,162. Navy's three other scorers, Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.), James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.) and Billy Carson (McDonough, Ga.), in the smallbore discipline all registered a score of 1,139. Kauber then turned in a team-high 386 clip during the air rifle discipline with Albright one-point behind at 385. Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) scored a 382, while Miller rounded out the Navy scorers with 381. "We have had a great week of practice that was very business like," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "After the match last week, the attitude around the range was different. We had teammates challenging other teammates to perform better because they all knew after last week, we could do better and we will."
