CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy right-hander Andy Froistad (So./St. Paul, Minn.) was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Monday, following a complete-game three-hit shutout in Navy's 3-0 win over Lafayette Saturday. Froistad took a no-hitter into the fourth inning before the bid ended on Jason Boyd's two-out double.
"We played really good defense Saturday at Lafayette and got some timely hitting," Froistad said. "If we can carry this momentum over to this weekend against Lehigh and into the playoffs, we are going to be a real tough team to beat."
Froistad is the second-straight Navy pitcher to win the award and third to win it this season. Rich McDevitt (Jr./Albany, N.Y.) was named the league's top pitcher last week, while teammate Bryan Koehler (Sr./Lutz, Fla.) was honored April 2. In the win over Lafayette, Froistad lowered his earned-run average to a league-best 1.84, while improving to 4-1 overall. In league games, he is 2-0 with a 1.12 ERA, allowing just three earned runs in 24 innings.
