Men's Swimming Loses Double-Dual Meet
The Navy men's swimming and diving team saw its record fall to 6-3 on the season with a pair of losses Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y. The Mids lost to Yale, 138-103, and to Cornell, 141.5-101.5.
Navy began the meet by placing second to Cornell in the 400 medley relay, but then quickly fell behind both foes with a top finish of seventh in the 1000 freestyle. Navy's Marshall Boyd (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.05, then Navy went 1-2 in the 50 free, with Terrence Fenningham (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) winning the event in a time of 21.14, .30 seconds ahead of teammate Matt James (Jr., Lititz, Pa.). For Fenningham the victory was his sixth this season in the 50 freestyle.
After Chris Speicher's (So., Cape May, N.J.) fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley and Casey Gon's (Sr., Cheetowaga, N.Y.) second-place showing in the one-meter diving, Navy struggled again in the 200 fly, with its top finisher coming in eighth place. The Mids rallied back by having Noah White (Jr., El Cajon, Calif.) and Fenningham place first and second in the 100 free, but then Navy placed fifth in both the 200 backstroke and the 500 freestyle events.
Gon won the three-meter diving event with a score of 260.35 then, after a sixth-place finish in the 200 breast, Navy's team of Boyd, Mike Linn (Fr., Newhall, Calif.), James and White placed second in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Mids will continue their season next Saturday when they compete at Pennsylvania.
