Navy Rifle Team Loses To Top Ranked Alaska-Fairbanks
PALMYRA, Pa.-The Navy rifle team lost to Alaska-Fairbanks, the number one ranked rifle team in the country, 6290-6142, Saturday morning in Palmyra, Pa. Fairbanks defeated Navy, 4728-4596 in smallbore and 1570-1546 in air rifle.
"It was a pretty good performance for us in air rifle, we were right at our season high," said Navy head rifle coach Bill Kelley. "We need to do some more work in smallbore.
Matt Emmons, who is an Olympic probable and a world champion, won the smallbore with a score of 1188 and the air with a 394 for Alaska-Fairbanks.
"It was a great experience for our team to compete against some of the top shooters in the country," said Kelley.
Navy's top shooter in the smallbore was sophomore Matt Albright, who shot an 1170. Senior James Kauber shot an 1158, sophomore Mike Miller 1147 and junior Marta Jung an 1121.
Miller and Jung were Navy's top shooters in the air rifle with a 387, while Albright and Kauber both shot 386.
The Mids will be back in action next Saturday when they play host to the NRA Junior Sectional.
