Mids Take on Princeton


Navy will honor the senior class prior to the game on Friday.

Annapolis, Md. -- Navy sprint football (4-0, 1-0 CSFL) will close out the 2003 home season by playing host to Princeton (0-4, 0-2 CSFL) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Rip Miller Field. The senior class will be honored prior to kickoff.

Navy has been a dominating force this season, outscoring opponents 117-33 in the first four games of the year. Senior Chris Ashinhurst (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) has thrown for 807 yards and six touchdowns. Seven different Mids have at least 50 yards in pass receptions, with senior Adam Matthews (Livingston, Wis./Iowa-Grant) leading the group with 240 yards and three touchdowns.

Navy has picked up another 653 yards on the ground, including 144 by sophomore Jake Owens (Pensacola, Fla./Booker T. Washington), who also has run in two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Navy has recorded nine interceptions on the season as senior Chris Zachary (Frisco, Texas/Frisco) and junior Charles Lewis (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) have each picked off three passes. Lewis also leads the team in tackles with 32, while senior John Collins (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) has accumulated 27 tackles.

Senior Jamie Glines (Modesto, Calif./Central Catholic) has caused trouble for every opponents, recording 12 tackles and picking up 323 all purpose yards (second on the team) - with 68 rushing yards, 93 from pass receptions, 135 on punt returns and 27 on kick returns.

Navy is coming off a bye week after defeating Cornell, 45-14, in Ithaca, N.Y. on Oct. 10, while Princeton dropped a 47-8 decision to the Big Red last Friday. The Mids have defeated the Tigers in each of the last four seasons. Navy's last loss to Princeton was on Oct. 30, 1998, when the Tigers eked out a 21-20 overtime victory.
