Navy Overpowers Princeton, 62-24

Senior Scott Lieng ran in two touchdowns for the Mids in the first quarter.

Annapolis, Md. -- Navy sprint football (5-0, 2-0 CSFL) outscored Princeton (0-5, 0-3 CSFL) 62-24 tonight on Rip Miller Field. The Mids owned a 49-17 lead after collecting 410 yards of total offense in the first half.

Senior Chris Ashinhurst (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) started the game at quarterback for Navy and completed eight of his 16 passes for 127 yards and connected with seniors Joel Gow (Riverview, Fla./Providence Christian) and Adam Matthews (Livingston, Wis./Iowa-Grant) for two touchdowns.

In the first half, senior Scott Lieng (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda) ran two touchdowns into the endzone, while seniors Randall Leslie (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley) and Maurice Chapman (Atlanta, Ga./Frederick Douglass) and sophomore Trevor Garabedian-Prophet (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) each ran in one touchdown.

In the second half, senior Jamie Glines (Modesto, Calif./Central Catholic) added a 45-yard touchdown reception from Chris Maloney (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) before sophomore Thomas Schmitz (Middletown, Calif./Middletown) tacked on a 19-yard run into the endzone.

Glines collected 79 yards on the offensive side of the ball, picked up one tackle, returned five punts for 93 yards and brought back four kickoffs for 74 yards.

?It was a sloppy win, but it's a win,? said Glines. ?We're going to use this going into our last two games. We know we have to step it up for Penn and Army.?

Princeton was led on all fronts by junior Matt Worley who had 52 receiving yards, 110 rushing yards and 11 tackles. Tigers' quarterback Dennis Bakke ran in two touchdowns, while Worley added the third.

Navy did not punt the ball once during the contest and ended the game with 600 yards of total offense.

Navy travels to Philadelphia, Pa., next Friday for a rematch with Penn. The Mids took a 10-6 victory on Sept. 20. Navy will wrap up the 2003 season in West Point, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 7 against Army in the Star Game.
