Junior Matt Albright set another new school record in the smallbore against USP in November. |
Annapolis, Md. -- After a review of the targets from the Mids match against the University of the Sciences (USP) on Nov. 22, Navy head coach Billy Kelley confirmed that junior Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn./Christian Heritage School) shot a school record 1183 smallbore score.
Albright compiled an impressive list of scores with a 399 prone, 394 kneeling and 390 standing. Albright also led the team with a 394 in air rifle, which is only one point off the school record.
Albright's 1183 broke the Academy record of 1182, which he had recorded earlier this season against Penn State and Duquesne on Oct. 18 (besting the previous high mark of 1179, which he set last February).
The team combined for the 6180-5713 over USP.
Navy's smallbore squad of junior Albright, captain Marta Jung (Reno, Nev./Robert McQueen), freshman Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) and junior Kevin Wilson (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) combined for a team total of 4626 to surpass USP's 4283.
In air rifle, Albright led the team with a 394, while freshman Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) added a 392. Jung posted a 390 and sophomore Billy Carson (McDonough, Ga./Henry County) rounded out the squad with a 378 to give the Mids a 1554 aggregate score. USP recorded a team air rifle mark of 1430 on the day.
Navy will resume competition in January, when the Mids travel to Palmyra, Pa. to take on Alaska-Fairbanks on the 24th and Nebraska on the 25th.
