Annapolis, Md. -- Navy rifle (11-1) recorded its tenth consecutive victory over Army today, as the Mids dropped the Black Knights 7769-7702.
School records were broken again with today's performance, as junior Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn./Christian Heritage School) scored an 1187 in the smallbore and the team posted a total of 7769. Albright was the previous record holder with an 1184 smallbore score (set on Feb. 14, 2004 at the NCAA Qualifier), while the squad bested the 7710 aggregate mark set on Feb. 17, 2001.
Freshman Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) topped the field in air rifle for the second-straight week with a 395, while team captain Marta Jung (Reno, Nev./Robert McQueen) posted a 392 and Albright and freshman Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) each added a 391. Junior Kevin Wilson (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) tacked on a 388 to give the Mids a 1957 in the discipline.
Behind Albright's 1187, the Mids posted a total score of 5812 in smallbore. Junior Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) posted an 1171, Wilson added an 1159, Schneider posted an 1148 and junior Iain MacLeod (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) rounded out the team with an 1147.
The Mids will compete at teh MAC Championship on Mar. 6 in Cambridge, Mass., before heading to Murray, Ky., on Mar. 11-13 for the NCAA Championships.
