Van Hartesvelt Garners League Honor Again

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- For the second time in as many weeks, Navy senior outside hitter Ashley Van Hartesvelt (Breckenridge, Colo.) has been selected as the Baden Patriot League Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Van Hartesvelt helped the Mids post a 4-0 record last week to improve the team's season record to 10-1, the best start to a season since Navy moved to the Division I level in 1991. She averaged 4.85 kills and 4.0 digs per game and hit .275 in Navy's wins over Coppin State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Rider and La Salle.

She was named to the all-tournament team at the Cranberry Classic after recording three double-doubles and averaging 5.27 kills and 4.09 digs per game to go along with a .278 hitting percentage on the weekend. Van Hartesvelt began the three-match tournament by knocking down 23 kills in the three-game sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson, then closed the tournament by totaling 23 kills and 22 digs in the four-game win over La Salle. She has been named to the all-tournament team after each of Navy's three tournaments this fall.

On the season, Van Hartesvelt leads the Patriot League in kills per game (4.74) and hitting percentage (.343), while ranking second to teammate Ashley Musser (Industry, Pa.) in service aces per game (0.77) and seventh in digs per game (3.41).

The Midshipmen will open their Patriot League season Thursday night by playing host to three-time defending league champion American in a 7 p.m. match in Macdonough Hall.
