Gymnastics Places Second at James Madison Invitational
Harrisonburg, Va. - The Navy gymnastics team posted its highest team score of the season (204. 20 points) Saturday to place second at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Mids swept the first through fourth spots in the individual all-around competition, as senior captain Josh Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.) won the event with a score of 50.60. Blackman placed second on the rings with a score of 9.15 and third on the high beam with a mark of 8.65.
Following Blackman in second was junior Grant Regelin (Columbia, Md.) with a score of 50.00, while classmate Ben Peterman (Amherst, Mass.) finished in third place with a mark of 49.95. Freshman Christopher Tam (Draper, Utah) placed fourth with a score of 49.60.
The Mids also faired well in several individual events, including sophomore Sean Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.), who won the rings with a season-best score of 9.6. Freshman Brandon Cook (Longmont, Colo.) also had a strong afternoon as he placed first in the floor exercise (8.9) and followed by finishing in a tie for second place in the vault with a mark of 9.0.
Classmate Matt Beaudette (Norwell, Mass.) also picked up a victory on the afternoon, as he placed first on the pommel horse by posting a score of 8.65.
On his way to his third-place finish in the all-around portion of the meet, Peterman posted a score of 8.25 on the parallel bars to place third in the event.
Navy will be back in action Saturday as it plays host to service academy foes Army and Air Force in the All-Academy Championship at Macdonough Hall at 7 p.m.
