Juniors Gurevich and Solomon Highlight Navy's Effort in Event Finals of USAGs

Gurevich (FX) and Solomon (PB) each earned silver medals on Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Action at the 2026 USAG Collegiate National Championship Meet for the Navy gymnastics team concluded on Saturday afternoon with the event finals at Cadet West Gym on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy. The Mids were well represented on the podium throughout the majority of the meet as six of the team's nine routines on Saturday garnered spots on the six-man podium. Juniors Daniel Gurevich (Frisco, Texas) and Brian Solomon (Lynnfield, Mass.) spearheaded Navy's efforts as the duo each recorded silver medal-winning performances, Gurevich on the floor exercise and Solomon on the parallel bars.

Gurevich led off the afternoon of action with a crisp routine on the floor exercise. By the time his 70 seconds on the floor was complete his 4.9-start level routine garnered him 8.95 points for an overall score of 13.75. That total tied Springfield's Carl Jacob Soederqvist for second place as the duo ended up just 0.05 points shy of Greenville's Jaxon Clapper, who earned an all-important 0.1 stick bonus at the conclusion of this performance. Danilo Viciana (Sr., Marietta, Ga.) was strong in his efforts on the floor as well as he placed fourth overall with a 13.4 score.

Competing in the finals for the rings and the parallel bars, Solomon aced his routine on the parallel bars and scored himself a silver medal for his hard work. Beginning with a start value of 4.3, he performed his routine with the second-best execution of the apparatus with 8.9 points and added 0.1 for a stick of his dismount for a cumulative mark of 13.3.

Earlier in the meet, Solomon collected the first of his two podium finishes on the rings as he turned in a score of 13.2 that placed him fourth just 0.05 points behind Greenville's Ricky Mays in a battle for third place.

Last night's all-around champion, Jonah Soltz (So., Tacoma, Wash.) found himself in action throughout the afternoon as he raised his hand on three different apparatus. A late addition to pommel horse field after a scratch in the morning, Soltz performed admirably and finished on the podium in fifth with a score of 12.85.

Soltz earned his second trip to the podium in as many events as he tied for fifth on the vault with Clapper. The pair posted matching scores of 13.5. Seeded first after recording the highest score on Friday on the vault, Matthew Petros (Sr., Broadview Heights, Ohio) was edged off the podium and had to settle for seventh place after netting 13.3 points.

The duo of Soltz and Petros were in action again on the final rotation on Saturday, the high bar. After a long weekend of competition, the pair were slightly off in their respective execution and fell short off making the podium as Soltz' 12.4 ranked seventh, while Petros' 11.9 was good for eighth.

Prior to the start of Saturday's meet, the USAG announced its year-end award winners and Petros was recognized as the USAG Senior Gymnast of the Year.

Navy will continue postseason action in two weeks with the 2026 ECAC Championship lying in wait on April 4. The conference-wide event is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first touch at Blake Arena on the campus of Springfield College.
