ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's intercollegiate sailing team qualified for Nationals this past weekend with a second-place finish in the Middle Atlantic Women's Dinghy Championship held at Georgetown University. The Mids finished second with 72 points, while St. Mary's claimed the top spot with 60 points.
Katie Whitman and Slava Haywas finished second in the "A" Division with 32 points. In the "B" Division, Charlotte Hill and Andrew White were also second with 33 points. Each division sailed six races on Saturday and five on Sunday. The Mids finished second out of 14 teams.
Navy is one of 18 teams to qualify for the ICSA Women's North American Dinghy Championship and the Gerald C. Miller Trophy. The national competition will be held at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, on June 1-3.
