ANNAPOLIS, Md -- The Coed Team of Gary Grimes, Kristen Sproat, Andrew Vann and Lindsey Magee qualified the Navy intercollegiate sailing team for the MAISA conference championship in a couple of weeks with a second-place finish at the Tom Curtis Regatta at Georgetown.

Navy also had the semifinal regatta for the men's single-handed championship. Navy's Martin Sterling just fell short of qualifying for nationals with an eighth-place finish, but sailed well for a first-time competitor in this event.

Navy also hosted the Navy fall women's regatta here at Robert Crown Center. The No. 2-ranked Navy women's team sailed well in the double-handed divisions, as All-Americans Katie Whitman and Trisha Kutkiewicz were fifth in A Division. All American Charlotte Hill and Maggie Reynolds won the B division by 20 points. However, Navy's freshman player, Alaina Bussell had a tough time of it in C division and was 13th. Navy was second in the double-handed divisions but fihished seventh overall with the addition of C division.

Next weekend is the biggest regatta in College sailing when 20 teams from all over the country descend on the Robert Crown Center for Navy Fall.
