NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Navy tennis team improved its record at the Hampton Roads Invitational of Newport News to 25-9 and advanced four singles players and one doubles team to the finals of their respective flights Saturday.
"I am really pleased with our effort and composure on the court," said Navy head coach John Officer. "Everyone is really battling out there, but they are playing under control. I can't think of one point today in which a player didn't give their best effort to reach every ball. This has been two tournaments in a row in which I am very happy with how we have played."
Advancing to Sunday's finals in singles were Jason Hill (So., Marietta, Ga.) in the 'B' flight, Stanley Kahl (Sr., Richland, Pa.) in the 'C' flight, and both Jarrad Smoke (Fr., Belmar, N.J.) and Alex James (Jr., Visalia, Calif.) in the 'D' flight. In addition, the doubles team of Kahl and Adrian Lai (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) advanced to the finals in the 'C' flight.
