Five Mids Win Events in Team Triumph

Oct. 28, 2006

Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Kevin Teague (Sr., Lexington, Ky.), Adam Meyer (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) and Cody Reeb (Fr., St. Louis, Mo.) all won a pair of events on the day to help the Navy men's swimming and diving team post a 154.5-86.5 victory over UMBC, Saturday afternoon in Lejeune Hall. The Mids improved to 5-0 on the year with the win, while the Retrievers evened their record at 1-1 with the loss.

Navy enjoyed a great start to the meet when its 400-meter medley relay team posted a three-second victory in the opening event of the day. The team of Kevin Mukri (Sr., Silver Spring, Md.), John Kennedy (Sr., Richmond, Va.), Wren Dupre (Fr., Terrace Park, Ohio) and Alex Oldenkamp (So., Coppell, Texas) posted a time of 3:54.05, with UMBC's top foursome finishing the event in a time of 3:57.88.

"That relay was huge for us," said Navy head swimming coach Bill Roberts. "They really set the tone for the remainder of the meet.

"On the whole, we swam a lot of very smart races today which gave us some great results."

After winning the relay race, the Mids won four of the next five events to jump out in front of the Retrievers. Reeb posted a four-second victory in the 800-meter freestyle (8:26.18), Preston Mihalko (So., Chesapeake, Va.) recorded a time of 24.22 to win the 50-meter freestyle, Meyer won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:07.79 and Teague scored a 324.83 to win the one-meter diving event.

After Evan Roseberry and Justin Bronson won the 200-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle events, respectively, for the Retrievers, Mukri, Reeb, Teague and Meyer closed the individual event portion of the meet by sweeping the final four races. Mukri won the 200-meter backstroke (2:03.45), Reeb won the 400-meter freestyle (4:06.92), Meyer won the 200-meter breaststroke (2:24.09) and Teague made it a sweep of the diving events with a score of 355.95 on the three meter.

Navy will take next weekend off from competition before facing Bucknell and Lafayette Nov. 11 in Lewisburg, Pa.
