Nebraska Rifle Knocks Off Navy

Oct. 29, 2006

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Last year's NCAA runner-up, Nebraska, posted strong scores in both disciplines and dealt the Mids their second straight loss with a 4,648 - 4,564 decision on Sunday morning. The loss drops Navy's dual-meet record to 1-2 overall.

"We obviously have a lot of work to do," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "Nebraska is a very good team, but we didn't shoot very well today. We will be quite busy when we get home on Monday, preparing for next week. It was a disappointing weekend for us."

The Huskers outscored Navy, 2,342 - 2,312 in air rifle and 2,306 - 2,252 in smallbore. In air rifle, Navy was led by Sarah Bergman's 582, Lisa Kunzelman added a 579, Monica Amagna scored a 578 and Chris Schneider contributed a 573.

In smallbore, Schneider paced the Mids with a 571, Bergman tallied a 565 and Amagna and Alex Karacsonyi shot 558s, respectively.

Navy will compete next weekend at West Point for the President's Trophy. Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and Navy will all compete in the four-team tournament.
