Stanton Garners Patriot League Rookie of the Week Accolades

Nov. 27, 2006

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy's freshman Trey Stanton was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Stanton joins classmate Chris Harris as Navy winners of the award this year, as a Navy rookie has now won the award for the second straight week, and two of the first three weeks this year. Navy currently owns a 4-2 overall record.

Stanton, a 6-10 forward from Friendswood, Texas, earned the honor after averaging 12.0 ppg in two Navy games last week. In Navy's 82-59 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore last Tuesday, Stanton scored 15 points with three rebounds, two assists and one steal in just 27 minutes of action. He went 4-of-6 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and knocked down all five of his free throw attempts. In Saturday's loss to Villanova, Stanton scored nine points, all in the second half, on 3-of-6 shooting, with four rebounds, two blocks and one steal. He also connected on a pair of three-pointers to jumpstart a Navy rally in its comeback attempt against the Wildcats.

For the year, Stanton is second on the team in scoring with an 11.2 ppg average, and adds 3.3 rpg, 0.7 apg, 0.7 bpg and 0.5 spg. He is shooting .538 from the field, .500 from three-point land and .929 from the free throw line. His 11.2 points per game average is tops among Patriot League freshmen, and his field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage is sixth, fourth and sixth among all players, respectively.

Stanton and his teammates will be in action next on Tuesday, Nov. 28, with a 7:00 p.m., tilt against William & Mary. For ticket information, please call 1-800-US4-NAVY.
