Navy Wins Final Crew Race of the Fall

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Navy women's crew team posted victories in a pair of races at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta, Saturday on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax, Va. The event was the final regatta of the fall season for the Midshipmen.

Navy boats began the day by placing first, third and sixth in the collegiate eight race, with the top Navy crew posting a time of 16:58.679 over the 5000-meter course to win the race by 24 seconds. George Washington followed in second place in a time of 17:22.755, with Navy's next entry placing third with a clocking of 17:32.655.

Navy crews then finished first and second in the collegiate novice eight race with times of 18:32.603 and 19:39.149, respectively. American placed third in the race with a time of 20:50.467.

Rounding out the day for Navy was a seventh-place showing by the entry in the collegiate four race. Penn State won the race in a time of 19:32.378, with the Navy crew recording a time of 20:45.056.

"It was a great end to a great fall season," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "We not only won the races today, but also showed very good depth with a number of high finishes by all of our crews.

"We're very happy to end the season with an excellent overall performance as we did today."
