March 24, 2006

The Navy IC Sailing competed in two regattas last weekend. Chuck Fulmer won the "D" Division at the Truxtun Umsted Regatta. Charlotte Hill and Andrea White finished second in the "B" division at the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional.

The 35th Annual Truxtun Umsted Regatta was hosted by the Naval Academy last weekend. Twenty schools from around the country competed in the season's biggest regatta. Four divisions of FJ's, 420's, Laser Full and Laser Radial Rigs made for 80 boats on the River at once. Twelve races were completed on Saturday in a NW breeze at 15-20 knots. Navy ended the day in 11th place. Sunday's conditions were similar with slightly lighter breeze at 10-15 knots. Navy finished the 20-race regatta in 11th place with 793 points. John Keith, Ian Gill, Rob Ramirez, Lauren Sutehall, Kristen Sproat, John Appelbaum, and Mike Mullee finished 17th in the "A" division. Gary Grimes, Dave Parker, Kristen Sproat, Mike Mullee and Krysta Anthony finished 14th in the "B" division. Mac Fletcher finished 14th in the "C" Division sailing Laser Full Rigs. Team Captain Chuck Fulmer dominated the "D" Division sailing Laser Radials, winning by 27 points.

The women's team traveled to the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional to sail in similar conditions seen here at Navy. The breeze was extremely puffy, with 22-knot blasts lasting for over a minute. Eight races were completed on Saturday, leaving the Mids in sixth place. Sunday gave similar conditions and the players rose to the top. The "A" division was dominated by a College of Charleston sailor. Charlotte Hill and Andrea White were battling all weekend with Georgetown and College of Charleston. In the end, Georgetown took first in "B" with Navy in second. Navy finished fifth overall. Katie Whitman with Andrea White (races 1-2) and Trisha Kutkiewicz finished 12th with 129 points. Charlotte Hill and Andrea White finished second with 57 points

This Coming Weekend:
Navy is competing in three co-ed regattas. One team is heading south to Old Dominion for the Aaron Szambecki Team Race Regatta. Two teams are heading north. One will be at New York Maritime Academy for the SUNY Team Race Challenge. The other will be the Southern New England Team Race Regatta held at the US Coast Guard Academy.
