The Navy IC Sailing competed in three regattas last weekend. Charlotte Hill with Maggie Reynolds and Andrea White won the B division at the Dellenbaugh Trophy. Ian Gill with Stephanie Altomare won the B division at the Arrigan Memorial.
The co-ed team traveled to US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point for the Admiral's Cup. Eighteen teams from around the country competed in the 17 races over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a day of waiting. The breeze finally filled in around 3:30 in the afternoon, and six races were completed by 7:30 pm. On Sunday, there was a shifty Northerly for the remaining 11 races. Dave Parker and Andrew Vann skippered with Krysta Anthony crewing in A Division for a 14th place finish. Gary Grimes with Kristen Sproat and Mike Mullee finished 10th in B Division. Mac Fletcher finished 9th in C Division sailing Laser Full Rigs. Navy finished 11th overall with 497 points.
The co-ed team also traveled to Georgetown University for the Robert Paul Arrigan Memorial Trophy. Eight races were sailed on Saturday in breeze starting from the South and shifting towards the WNW. The race course moved from inside the turning basin, to the river and back again throughout the day. On Sunday, the breeze was out of the NW at 2-10 knots. three races were completed inside the turning basin. Rob Ramirez with Audrey Callanan finished fourth in A Division. Ian Gill with Stephanie Altomare won the B Division. Navy finished second overall.
The women's team traveled to Brown University for the Brad Dellenbaugh Trophy. The women saw all conditions over the two days. Saturday saw a foggy start with SSE winds at six to nine knots. The sun came out, the fog burned off, and the seabreeze filled out of the SSW at 8-12 knots for the afternoon races. The wind died at around 5:00 pm and the strong current kicked in for the last race in B division. On Sunday, the wind was very shifty and gusty out of the NNW wind at 10-20 knots with some higher puffs. Windward-Leeward courses with gates and a windward offset, Gold Cups, Triangle-Windwards, and Olympics were the courses used. There was extremely close racing and close scores in each division. Charleston dominated A Division by 41 points, but the rest of the players were in a close dogfight. Katie Whitman sailed with Andrea White and Trisha Kutkiewicz, finishing second in A Division with 98 points. Charlotte Hill sailed with Maggie Reynolds and Andrea White, winning B Division by 15 points. Navy finished second overall.
This coming weekend IC Sailing will compete in five regattas. The women's team has its qualifier for ICSA Nationals at SUNY Maritime Academy. The top five teams from the district move on. The co-ed team will be at the US Coast Guard Academy for the Thompson Trophy, at Christopher Newport University for a 2-on-2 team race regatta, at St. Mary's for the MAISA Open Regatta and at the Severn Sailing Association for the Laser Sunshine Open.
