ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's track & field junior jumper Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) placed among the top-three in two events to lead the Midshipmen to victories over American, Penn and VCU on Saturday in Halsey Field House.
Navy won eight events and posted seven IC4A-qualifying efforts to rack up 201 points, while Penn accumulated 151 points to edge VCU's 141-point performance, while American totaled 57 points.
Marshall surpassed the IC4A standard in the triple jump for the second-straight week, posting a career-best distance of 48'0" (14.63 meters) to win the event. Earlier in the day, the junior placed third in the long jump with a career-longest mark of 22'10-1/2" (6.97 meters).
Two Navy middle distance runners produced IC4A-qualifying efforts in finishing first and second in the 800-meter run. Junior Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.), this week's ECAC and Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, won the event with a time of 1:53.00 and classmate Craig Meekins (Baldwin, N.Y.) followed with a 1:54.42 clocking.
In addition to the 800-meter run, the Midshipmen also posted the top-two marks in two throwing events. Junior Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) uncorked a career-best toss of 55'3/4" (16.78 meters) in the shot put, while Andre Barber (Carrollton, Texas) produced a career-best throw of 50'9-1/4" (15.47 meters). In the 35-pound weight throw, sophomore Christopher Bordino (Gastonia, N.C.) won the event with a distance of 50'1/2" (15.25 meters) and senior Nate Stein (Sandusky, Ohio) produced a throw of 49'1-1/2" (14.97 meters).
Three other Mids also qualified for the IC4A Championship on Saturday. Senior Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) cleared 6'10-3/4" (2.10 meters) to win the high jump, junior Lucas Burke (Bakersfield, Calif.) placed third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:29.81 and junior Jeff Sarchione (Alliance, Ohio) finished fifth with a 4:13.51 clocking in the mile run.
Navy also claimed event victories in two individual events and the 4x400-meter relay. Senior indoor team captain Cameron Lindsay (Kernersville, N.C.) posted a time of 1:05.37 in the 500-meter run and senior Michael Niemi (Duluth, Minn.) finished the 5,000-meter run with a 14:58.64 showing.
The Midshipmen (3-1) will host their final home meet of the indoor season next Saturday (Jan. 20) when they take on James Madison, Mount St. Mary's and William & Mary.
