ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Greg Sprink became Navy's first All-Patriot League honoree since 2002, when he was voted to the All-Patriot League second team, the league office announced today. In addition, freshman Trey Stanton became the fourth Navy player in three years to be named to the All-Rookie Team. Navy has now had at least one All-Rookie team selection in each of Billy Lange's three years in charge.

Sprink, a 6-5 guard from Cardiff, Calif., is enjoying a sensational junior campaign. He leads the team in scoring (17.2 ppg), rebounding (4.8 rpg), field goals made and attempted (154-337), three-pointers made and attempted (65-170), free throws made and attempted (125-145), free throw percentage (.862) and is third in assists (73) and steals (26). He is the only player in the Patriot League to rank in the top 10 of the three major statistical categories (points, rebounds and assists). In all games played, he ranks second in scoring on the Patriot League charts behind Holy Cross' Keith Simmons, and was the league's leading scorer in Patriot League games, averaging 17.9 ppg. He became the fifth Navy junior to reach 1,000 points and currently has scored 1,123 points, and is the only current junior in the Patriot League to have scored 1,000 points.

So far this year, Sprink has scored 498 points to rank 11th on the Navy single-season chart. It is the most points scored in a single season since Chris Williams scored 554 in 2001. His 17.2 ppg average ranks 19th on the Navy single-season chart. He also ranks high in three-pointers made (2nd; 65), three-pointers attempted (3rd; 170), free throw percentage (3rd; .862) and minutes played per game (8th; 34.4). He has 10 20-point games this year and has scored in double-figures in 24-of-29 games this year. When Sprink is held to single-digit scoring, Navy is 0-5 this year.

On the career charts at Navy, Sprink is 16th in points (1,123), 13th in points per game (13.7), second in three-pointers made (160), second in three-pointers attempted (431), eighth in three-point percentage (.368) and third in free throw percentage (.831).

Navy's last All-Patriot League honoree was Jehiel Lewis in 2002. The Mids haven't had a first-team selection since Chris Williams in 2001.

Meanwhile, 6-10 freshman forward Trey Stanton earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Rookie team. The Friendswood, Texas, native is averaging 8.1 ppg and 3.9 rpg, while dishing out 33 assists, blocking 23 shots and grabbing 20 steals. He ranks second among all Patriot League freshmen in scoring. He has scored in double figures eight times this year and set a school record for most points scored in his first game as a freshman when he tallied 17 in the season opener against Loyola (Md.). He was twice named Patriot League Rookie of the Week this year.

On the Navy freshmen charts, he ranks 12th in scoring (236 points), fourth in three-pointers made (36), fourth in three-pointers attempted (102), third in blocked shots (23) and second in games started (28). Earlier this year, Stanton became the 11th Navy freshman to score 200 points with 100 rebounds and with just two more blocks, he can join past Navy greats David Robinson (1984) and Dave Brooks (1981) as the only freshmen in school history to register 200 points, 100 rebounds and 25 blocks in a season.

Stanton joins current Mids Greg Sprink (2005), Corey Johnson (2005) and Kaleo Kina (2006) as Patriot League All-Rookie team selections.

Simmons, who was named Patriot League Player of the Year, was joined on the first team by teammate Torey Thomas, Bucknell's Chris McNaughton, American's Andre Ingram and Lehigh's Jose Olivero. Thomas was named Defensive Player of the Year while Holy Cross' Ralph Willard was the Coach of the Year. Joining Sprink on the second team was Holy Cross' Tim Clifford, Bucknell's Donald Brown, Colgate's Jon Simon and Army's Jarell Brown. The All-Rookie team was comprised of Stanton, Lehigh's Marquis Hall, Holy Cross' Eric Meister, Army's Marcus Nelson and Lehigh's Zahir Carrington. Hall was selected as the Rookie of the Year.
