Women's Crew Sweeps Georgetown

April 22, 2007

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy women's crew team enjoyed one of its better all-around racing days of the season Sunday morning on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., as the Mids posted a sweep of their three races against Georgetown by a combined margin of nearly 90 seconds.

"Anytime you can win all of your races it is a great Navy day," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "Our goal coming into today was top take an early lead and just keep going strong no matter what the difference between the boats was."

Navy's first varsity boat recorded a time of 6:02.2 to win the varsity race by 13 seconds over Navy's second varsity crew and by 23 seconds over the lone Georgetown entry.

"Our varsity crew felt this may have been their best race of the season, and our junior varsity boat put together an outstanding row, as well," said Hughes.

Navy boats also placed first and second in both the novice eight and varsity four races. The victory in the novice race allowed Navy's top boat in the flight to remain undefeated this season.

The Mids will now attempt to win their second Patriot League title in three years April 29 at the league championship regatta in Worcester, Mass.
