LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The No. 13-ranked Navy water polo fell behind early, then saw its rally end up just short in an 8-7 loss to St. Francis (N.Y.) in the ECAC Tournament finals on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops Navy's record to 10-5 overall, as it enters league play next weekend.
Navy fell behind 2-1 after one quarter and was forced to play from behind all day. The Terriers led 3-2 at halftime and 7-5 after three quarters. The Mids outscored St. Francis, 2-1, in the final quarter, but couldn't draw even and saw its modest four-game winning streak end.
Mike Mulvey led the way with four goals. Bram Arnold and Andrew Bingham scored a goal and assist each, while Tyler Hill dished out two helpers. Aaron Recko scored Navy's other goal. Defensively, George Naughton had an outstanding performance in the net, making 15 saves, before being replaced by Steve Craney, who stopped four shots.
The Mids will play Princeton, Bucknell and St. Francis (N.Y.) next weekend on the road.
