NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Navy men's cross country team captain Bill Prom (Sr./New Berlin, Wis.) finished 75th overall to lead the Midshipmen to a 21st-place performance out of 25 teams at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon.
No. 26 Florida State won the team title with 81 points, followed by Tulsa's 126 points, No. 28 Texas A&M's 136 points, No. 19 Providence's 148 points and Butler's 208 points to round out the top five. Navy's 482 points were three more than 20th-place Mississippi State and eight fewer than 22nd-place Kentucky.
Among the field of 25 teams, seven were ranked among the nation's top-30 programs, with an additional four school receiving votes.
Racing in a field of 186 runners, Prom completed the course in 24:51. He finished 1:19 behind individual champion Samuel Kosgei's 23:32 showing for Lamar. It was the third time this season and in his career that Prom produced the team's fastest time.
Andrew Hanko (So./Montville, N.J.) produced a similar time of 24:51, but finished just a fraction of a second behind Prom to earn a 77th-place ranking. Matthew De Villers (So./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) placed 98th with a time of 25:08, followed by Chris Horel's (Jr./Belford, N.J.) 25:14 clocking for 111th place and Andrew Grant's (Sr./Athens, Ga.) time of 25:23 for 127th place and to complete Navy's scoring five.
The Midshipmen will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 18, with the Star Meet against Army in Annapolis. Race time is slated for 10:30 a.m.
