FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Navy men's cross country team captain Bill Prom (Sr./New Berlin, Wis.) placed 45th overall to lead the Midshipmen to a 15th-place finish out of 25 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Among the field of 25 teams, five were ranked among the nation's top-30 programs by the USTFCCA, while two others were receiving votes.
Adams State claimed the team title with 75 points, followed by No. 29 Iowa State's 89 points, No. 30 Brigham Young's 91 points, host No. 9 Minnesota's 107 points and No. 25 Auburn's 135 points to round out the top-five teams. Navy accumulated 405 points, 28 more than Army's 14th-place score and 26 fewer than 16th-place Dayton's total.
Racing among a field of 229 runners, Prom completed the 8k Les Bolstad Golf Course in 25:17.3. He has led the Midshipmen across the finish line in three of his four meets this fall.
Andrew Hanko (So./Montville, N.J.), the reigning Patriot League Runner of the Week, produced the team's second-best time - 49th overall - with a 25:19.3 clocking. Ricky Griffith (Jr./Piedmont, Calif.) landed in 113th place with a time of 26:04.9, followed by Matt Leyndyke's (Sr./Traverse City, Mich.) time of 26:12.5 for 117th place and Chris Horel's (Jr./Belford, N.J.) 26:14.7 clocking for 121st place.
Navy will return to action this Friday, Oct. 3, when they head to the Notre Dame Invitational. Race time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
