WEST POINT, N.Y. - Navy gymnast Dylan Parrott (So./Rockwell, N.C.) finished sixth in the all-around and among the top-five gymnasts in two events to lead the Midshipmen to a second-place tally among six colleges in the West Point Open on Friday night at Christl Arena.
The Midshipmen, who were making their first appearance of the year, racked up 329.15 points as a team to finish behind only No. 5 Penn State's 345.2 points. No. 11 Temple finished third with 328.05 points, followed by Springfield's 326.2 points, host Army's 317.75 points and MIT's 312.9 points. In addition to the six schools, several club teams participated in the event.
Parrott registered at least a 13.0 in four of the six disciplines to place sixth in the all-around with an 81.25 - fifth among collegiate competitors. The Navy sophomore qualified for the event finals on Saturday night on both the high bar and floor exercise. On the high bar, he finished second overall and first among collegiate gymnasts with an impressive 14.85-point routine. Later in the night, he earned a 14.45 from the judges on the floor exercise to tie for fifth place overall. He also landed in 12th place with a 13.45 on the parallel bars and recorded a 14.75 on the vault.
Joining Parrott in the event finals on Saturday will be teammate Trey James (Sr./Matthews, N.C.). The Navy senior placed fifth on the pommel horse, fourth among collegians, with a solid 14.05-point performance.
Several additional Midshipmen landed among the top-15 competitors on Friday night. In his collegiate debut, Andrew Faulk (Fr./San Antonio, Texas) finished 11th in the all-around, seventh among college gymnasts, with a score of 80.3. His best performances came on the high bar (13.95) and parallel bars (13.3), where he placed 11th and 14th, respectively. He also produced a 14.95 on the vault for 16th place.
Team captain Adam Stanton (Sr./Centennial, Colo.) placed 12th on the pommel horse with a 13.6 and 14th on the parallel bars with a 13.3. Classmate Joseph Atzenbeck (Sr./Broomfield, Colo.) registered a 13.7 on the high bar for 13th place and a 13.3 on the pommel horse for 15th overall. James Godfrey (Sr./Columbia, S.C.) landed in 10th place on the parallel bars with a 13.55 and Bobby Ryerson (Sr./Clifton, N.J.) scored a 13.35 on the still rings for 15th place.
The West Point Open individual event finals will take place on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Christl Arena.
