HAMILTON, N.Y. - Led by Andrew Hanko's (Jr./Montville, N.J.) individual title, the Navy men's cross country won the Patriot League Championship for the second-straight year and first time outright on Saturday morning at Colgate's Harry Lang Cross Country Course.

The Midshipmen produced a team score of 34 points, 23 fewer than second-place American's 57 points. Bucknell finished third with 78 points, followed by Lehigh's 98 points, Army's 107 points, Holy Cross's 160 points, Colgate's 181 points and Lafayette's 251 points.

"This was a tactical race," stated Navy head coach Al Cantello, who earned Patriot League Coach-of-the-Year honors for the second-straight season. "The first mile was slow and it was all tactics. The course was pretty marshy with all the rain that had fallen."

Hanko, a four-time Patriot League Runner of the Week selection this fall and last year's second-place finisher at the league championship, topped the field of 83 runners with a time of 26:17.9 to earn Patriot League Runner-of-the-Year kudos, the first for any Navy runner since joining the league in 2003.

Cody Rome (So./Eagle, Idaho) claimed First-Team All-Patriot League honors with his 26:24.5 clocking over the 8,000-meter course.

Five other Navy runners were named second-team all-league for their efforts on Saturday. Team captain Chris Horel (Sr./Belford, N.J.) placed eighth overall with a time of 26:36.0, followed by Dean Black's (Fr./Colorado Springs, Colo.) 26:41.0 showing for 10th place and Patriot League Rookie-of-the-Year distinction. Navy has claimed the league's rookie-of-the-year award during each of the last-four league championships.

Ken Bunnell (So./St. Johnsbury, Vt.) rounded out the scoring five with a 12th-place time of 26:43.3, followed by teammates Ross Hughes (So./Charlotte, N.C.) and James Pearson (So./Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) with 13th- and 14th-place times of 26:47.3 and 26:59.3, respectively.

The Midshipmen, who are ranked fourth in the region, will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they head to Princess Anne, Md., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championship.
