Men's Tennis Tops Delaware, 4-3

Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - For the second day in a row, the Navy men's tennis team prevailed in a 4-3 victory as the Midshipmen topped Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

It is Navy's second-straight win and improves the team's overall mark to 10-5, while the visiting Blue Hens fall to 0-2 this spring.

"We really came out ready and played very well in the doubles," said Navy head coach John Officer. "In the singles, I thought we got a little bit complacent and weren't able to sustain our intensity from the early session.

"Things tightened up and it quickly became a very close match. I thought we came back and did a good job of finishing things off. We're happy to get a pair of wins this weekend and are looking forward to our upcoming matches down in Florida."

The Mids started off strong with a sweep of the doubles point. Ramsey Lemaich (Jr., Danville, Calif.) and Owen Bullard (So., Concord, N.C.) cruised past Sam Barrer and Andre Vorobyov at No. 3, 8-1. Team captain Jason Hill (Sr, Marietta, Ga.) and Nick Birger (So., Belleville, Ill) then sealed the point with an 8-3 win over Delaware's Chris Hincker and Courtney Scott at No. 2.

Meanwhile at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, Johnny Waters (Sr., Papillion, Neb.) and Zach Nicholson (Fr., Bowie, Md.) claimed an impressive 8-4 win over the Blue Hens' strong doubles tandem of Austin Longacre and Nolan Greenberg.

In singles action, Bullard was first off the courts at No. 5, with a 6-3, 6-2 victory - his team-leading 16th of the season.

The Blue Hens would respond with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles from Longacre, but the Mids answered with wins on courts four and three to secure their 10th match victory of the season.

At No. 4, Lemaich earned a straight-set win (6-3, 6-4) over Delaware's Barrer, while Jason Hill posted his second match-clinching win of the weekend thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 effort at the No. 3 spot. The Mids lost a pair of hard-fought three-set decisions at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to create the final margin.

Navy will play two of its final nine matches of the spring at home, a stretch which gets underway March 18 when the Mids visit Jacksonville.
