Mids Produce Season-Best DMR Effort at ECAC Championships

March 8, 2009

BOSTON - The Navy foursome of Kayla Sax (Jr., Richland, Wash.), Mansfield Murph (Fr., Mechanicsville, Va.), Jess Palacio (Fr., Sparks,Nev.) and Amy Watson (Jr., Hampstead, Md.) teamed up to produce the third-fastest distance medley relay time in school history on Sunday at the ECAC Championships.

The Midshipmen women finished in ninth-place overall in event, after clocking in with a season-best 11:58.56 effort.

The performance shaved more than eight seconds off the team's previous best showing of the season (12:07.29 - at GMU's Patriot Games; 1/31/09) and was just 4.53 ticks behind Navy's school-record pace of 11:54.03 set during the 2001 season.

Sunday's relay effort served as a fitting ending to a memorable indoor campaign for the Mids, who recorded their fourth-consecutive undefeated season (13-0 in dual-scored meets) and captured the program's second Patriot League title this winter.

Navy will return to action on Saturday, March 21, when it hosts a five-team meet at Ingram Field to begin the 2009 outdoor season.
