WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy women's crew team posted victories in all-five of its races to open the George Washington Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
"Today was a nice day to get out and race in some beautiful conditions," stated Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "It was great to win all five races today. We're going to have some tough races tomorrow, but we're looking forward to another great day of rowing."
Navy concluded the day by defeating MIT in the first varsity eight race by 3.1 seconds, 6:31.9-6:35.0. That win was preceded by a Navy second varsity eight 4.3-second victory over California's lightweight boat, 6:46.6-6:50.9.
The Mids recorded triumphs in both varsity four races on Friday afternoon. Navy's `A' crew defeated Georgetown's lightweight `A' squad, 7:13.3-7:16.4, and Navy's `B' team cruised past Georgetown's lightweight `B' boat, 7:26.5-7:56.5.
Navy opened the day by getting the best of Georgetown in the novice eight race by 2.5 seconds, 6:50.7-6:53.2.
The Midshipmen (9-2) will conclude their action in the two-day George Washington Invitational tomorrow with races during both the morning (8:00 a.m.-9:21 a.m) and afternoon (1:30 p.m.-2:51 p.m.).
