PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior distance stalwart Carey Young (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted an NCAA regional-qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase highlighting a stellar effort from Navy's contingent of distance runners on Friday evening at the Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational.

Competing for just her fifth time in the steeplechase, Young churned out a 10:49.92 clocking to earn 10th-place honors. Her time stands as the fourth fastest mark in school history and the fastest in the Patriot League this spring.

Moreover, with the effort Young now stands as the second-fastest steeplechaser in program history behind only Amy Baxter '01.

The Virginia Beach, Va. native is the Mids' first regional overall qualifier on the spring.

Fellow senior Maureen Dooley (Durham, Conn.) also competed in the event, posting a season-best PR time of 10:53.27 to earn entry to May's ECAC Championship along with Young.

Dooley's effort ranks fifth amongst the top-10 fastest times in school history and is the second-best mark recorded in the Patriot League this season. At last spring's Larry Ellis Invitational, Dooley set her previous-best mark of 10:55.24.

Coming off a pair of individual wins in last weekend's Star Meet victory over Army, Amy Watson (Hampstead, Md.) posted her first ECAC time of the spring with a season-best 17:11.84 effort to finish fourth in the 5,000.

Navy also received a career-best effort in the 5K race from freshman Marina McGrail (Manchester, Vt.). McGrail clocked in at 17:54.73 to claim 19th-place overall.

The Mids have now locked up five individual ECAC bids and will look to build upon that figure as a large contingent of athletes competes at Morgan State's seventh annual Legacy Meet on Saturday at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore.
