Ricky Dobbs Blog Entry #5
It feels as if a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm done with finals and officially done with my sophomore year of college. It is a blessing for me to have come this far. A lot of people said I wouldn't make it, but by the grace of God I'm making it. I'm not too worried about my grades because I put in the work all semester to make sure my grades were high enough that if I did struggle on finals it wouldn't hurt me that bad.
I'm at home right now on my summer leave and I was happy to spend Mother's Day with my mom for the first time in three years. I'm usually doing summer training during this time, but since I'm taking two courses of summer school I got to come home for a couple of weeks. Being home definitely made Mother's Day a more special day for both my mother and grandmother.
Since I've been back in Douglasville (Georgia) I have taken the time to relax and spend time with my family. I plan to go to my old high school to visit and talk to some of the students and I'm speaking at my old middle school's Spring Banquet. At the banquet I will talk about three things they should have to succeed in high school and life in general. 1. Having a plan. 2. Attitude and determination. 3. Character. These are things that I was taught coming through high school. If you have a plan, approach it with a good attitude and you have the determination to carry out this plan you will be successful in anything you want to do.
I also promised myself that I wouldn't touch a football for the two weeks that I'm home so I would miss it so much that when I got back to Annapolis I would be ready to work harder than I've ever worked in my life. I promised myself that I would be in the best shape of my life by the end of the summer. I can promise Navy fans that come August the Navy football team will be better than we were in the spring because of all the hard work we are going to put in this summer. Please keep us in your prayers this summer, as I will be praying for all of you who read this.
