Meyer Betters Time, Seed at NCAA Swim Meet

March 26, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Navy's Adam Meyer (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) posted a time of 1:45.74 to place 27th in the 200 individual medley event Friday at the NCAA Swimming Championship being held in Columbus, Ohio.

The clocking by the two-time Patriot League Swimmer of the Year allowed him to improve upon both his seed and qualifying time that he entered the championship with. Meyer was seeded 30th in the 200 IM with his season-best time of 1:45.82.

Additionally, his clocking Friday is the fourth fastest time recorded in the 200 IM in Navy history. Meyer has posted each of the nine fastest times in the event at Navy, including the school record effort of 1:44.49 that he set one year ago during the NCAA Championship.

A time of 1:44.75 was needed to finish 16th in the trial heats of the event and qualify for tonight's consolation final, while a clocking of 1:43.80 was required to place eighth and advance into tonight's championship final.

"Adam raced pretty well today," said Navy head coach Bill Roberts. "He was right where we expected him to be heading into the freestyle portion of the event. We're happy with his first swim of the meet and are already looking forward to his races on Sunday.

Meyer will not take compete in any events Saturday, but is entered into both the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly races that will be contested Sunday. Last year he placed 11th in the 200 fly to earn Honorable Mention All-America laurels.
