Women's Rowing Sweeps Georgetown

April 18, 2010

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's rowing team (9-5) swept visiting Georgetown in all four races contested Saturday morning on the Severn River in Annapolis.

In the first varsity eight race, the Midshipmen recorded a 5.2-second triumph, topping Georgtown 7:06.2-7:11.4. Navy's second varsity boat would also top the Hoyas with a winning time of 7:04.8, while the visitor's entry would complete the race in 7:09.4

Both of Navy's four-oared boats would post impressive victories. The Mids' first varsity four topped Georgetown by a nearly 20-second margin, 8:07.7-8:26.4. Their second varsity four, meanwhile, produced a 8:29.6-8:53.7 win.

"It was a great Navy day," stated Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "Everything fell into place. The water conditions were pretty horrific, making it hard for everyone to row, but we managed to pull it out. I thought we handled the water better than Georgetown. Any time you can get a team sweep it is a great day."

Next Sunday, the Navy women will travel to Cherry Hill, N.J., in hopes of bringing the Patriot League title back to Annapolis.
