WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Navy gymnastics team finished ahead of service academy rival Army to highlight its performance during the team and all-around competition at the ECAC Championship in Kaplan Arena on Friday night.
Navy tallied 327.85 points as a team to place fifth and finish 4.1 points ahead of Army's 323.75 points. Illinois-Chicago won the team title with 343.45 points, followed by Temple's 339.35 points, William & Mary's 337.65 points and Springfield's 336.05 points.
Andrew Faulk (So./San Antonio, Texas) placed sixth in the all-around with a cumulative total of 83.55 points to claim a medal. He earned a spot in Saturday's event finals in three disciplines - parallel bars (fourth), vault (sixth) and high bar (seventh). He boasted the highest score among the Mids on the parallel bars (14.1 points) and vault (15.2 points), while recording the team's second-best effort on the high bar (14.35 points).
Dylan Parrott (Jr./Rockwell, N.C.) topped the field on the floor exercise on Friday night with an impressive 15.4-point routine. He also placed second on the high bar, an event in which he's ranked 10th nationally, with a 15.0-point score from the judges.
Team captain Brian Quinn (Jr./Grain Valley, Mo.) and Brandon Tinkham (So./Round Rock, Texas) led the Mids on the still rings with a 10th-place mark of 13.7 points. Rookie Ian Lassonde (Fr./Bedford, N.H.) earned a 13.45-point score to lead the team and place 12th overall on the pommel horse.
Saturday's individual event finals will begin at 2 p.m. and the top-six performers will earn a spot on the medal stand.
