WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Navy Gymnastics team won its third consecutive Star Meet as it defeated Army, 324.1-322.8, in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon at the Gross Sports Center in West Point. Junior Andrew Faulk led the way for Navy as he won the all-around with a score of 83.2.
"We dealt with some adversity today, but it feels great, especially for Dylan (Parrott)," said Sho Fukushima. "Dylan has now won three Star Meets and that is a great accomplishment. We couldn't have won without Dylan and Andrew's performances today."
After four events the meet remained close, as Navy led Army by the slimmest of margins, 217.6-217.5. Army then grabbed the overall lead as it bested Navy, 53.8-52.3, on the parallel bars heading into the final event of the day.
Trailing entering the high bar competition, the Midshipmen reclaimed the lead for good, as Faulk and Parrott each registered a 14.2 to top the field and give Navy a 54.2-51.5 edge in the competition.
Parrott, Navy's lone senior, registered top-three scores in all six events on Saturday. His best finish came in the vault where he placed first with a score of 15.3.
En route to his all-around title and first-place finish on the high bar, Faulk also won the floor exercise, with a 14.1. He placed second on the rings and vault, with scores of 13.7 and 15.2, respectively.
Brandon Tinkham had the third-best all-around score on Saturday as he registered a 77.5. Chris Junghans followed in fourth place with a total of 76.0.
The Midshipmen will be back in action next weekend when they head to the All-Academy Championships in Laguna Hills, Calif.
