MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Navy standout diver Olaf Olson (Sr., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) closed out his career by placing 30th on the three-meter springboard Friday at the NCAA Championship in Minneapolis, Minn.
Olson accrued 288.50 points during Friday's six-dive preliminary round of competition. His effort comes one day after he totaled 269.90 points in placing 32nd on the one meter.
"Olaf had another good day," said head coach Joe Suriano. "He had one weak dive and that really cost him. You just can't afford a miss of any kind against a talented field such as this one.
"It was great for him to be able to end his career at the national championship. That was the one thing he had not accomplished in his career until this season, so I am very happy that he was able to compete at the meet and proud of the way he dove during it."
Olson totaled three Patriot League titles and garnered all-league honors three times over the course of his career.
Navy swimmers Mark Meyer (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) and Justin Vagts (So., Crofton, Md.) will be in action on Saturday at the meet. Meyer will compete in the 200 butterfly event and Vagts is entered into the 1650 freestyle race.
