WORCESTER, Mass. - Behind a first-place finish by the varsity four crew, the Navy women's rowing team took second place at the Patriot League Championship on Sunday in Worcester, Mass. Navy's title in the varsity four race was its second consecutive and fourth overall.
Bucknell took home the championship as it placed first in both the varsity eight and second varsity eight races.
Competing on Lake Quinsigamond, Navy's varsity four finished well ahead of the rest of the field as its time of 7:48.0 was just over nine seconds faster than second place Colgate.
"The varsity four and second varsity had great races today," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "It was a disappointing race for the varsity eight. We've got the ECAC race coming up next weekend, and I believe that is a race we have a shot at winning, but we have to get better."
Navy finished in third place in the varsity eight competition with a time of 6:58.1 - less than one second behind second place Colgate. Bucknell led the field with a time of 6:54.2.
In the second varsity race, the Bison edged the Mids by just 2.4 seconds. Bucknell clocked a 6:57.2, while Navy registered a 6:59.6 - far ahead of third place Holy Cross, which turned in a 7:07.4.
Navy will be back on the water next weekend in West Windsor, N.J., for the ECAC Mid-Atlantic/New England Region Championship.
