Philadelphia, Pa. - The Navy men's outdoor track and field team concluded its participation in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field with a sixth-place finish in the 4xMile Championship of America.
The quartet of junior Cody Rome, junior Dominic Della Pelle, junior Jeremy Haney and senior Andrew Hanko posted a time of 16:32.69 and the sixth-place finish is the best in recent history, besting ninth-place finishes in both 2009 and '10.
"We ran fairly well today," head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "The 4xMile relay did a very good job and they were up in the thick of things for a long time. The 4x800m team ran very well as a group. Now it's all about just getting ready for the Patriot League Championship next weekend."
The 4xMile performers ran the following mile splits: Rome (4:09.9), Della Pelle (4:03.9), Haney (4:13.9), Hanko (4:04.9).
Princeton won the 4xMile Championship with a time of 16:19.98, followed by Arkansas, Indiana, Villanova, Florida State and Navy.
Navy also had solid performances in the 4x400m and the 4x800m relays, hitting IC4A-qualifying times in both races.
The 4x400m relay a 3:16 for the second day in a row and placed 8th in the IC4A Final. The 4x400m team consisted of Kolton Kempel, Lucas Connelly, David Ash and Alexander Jackson.
The 4x800m team of Lucas Connelly, David Ash, Weston Kennedy and George Stevenson logged a time of 7:33.67 to place 10th in the college final. This is the first 4x800m race Navy has competed in this season and they hit the IC4A standard.
The 4x200m squad of Patrick Edmond, Brett Bogaard, Wynton El, Isaac Teichgrab ran a 1:27.60, to place sixth in the IC4A final. The 4x200m team bettered yesterday's qualifyying time by .14.
Senior Patrick Norwood posted an IC4A-qualifying mark of 177-5 (54.08m) to place 13th in the college division of the hammer throw. Senior Nicholas Porter was 19th (170-11) and junior Christopher Ricks was 23rd (166-9).
Navy will next compete at Lafayette in the 2011 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.
