CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Navy women's rowing team posted a solid showing at the Eastern Sprints Championship on Sunday in Cherry Hill, N.J., as the varsity four boat led the way by taking first place in the petite final. In all, Navy sent three boats to their respective petite finals.

The varsity four boat earned a spot in the petite final by placing third in its morning heat with a time 8:01.14. In the petite final, the varsity four boat topped Northeastern by less than two seconds. Navy clocked a 7:36.04, while Northeastern had a time of 7:38.01.

"The varsity four crew was the story of the day for us, they went up against five very good boats in the petite final," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "We're proud of them and coach Nicky (Stimpson) does a great job with that crew."

The varsity eight boat finished fifth in its heat with a time of 7:03.66. The crew went on to finish third in the third level final behind Boston University and MIT as it turned in a nearly identical time of 7:03.52.

The second varsity eight placed fourth in both its heat (7:06.62) and later in the petite final (7:05.36).

The Mids' third varsity boat rebounded from placing fourth in its heat with a time of 7:53.47 by posting a time over 20 seconds faster in petite final. In the petite final, Navy posted a 7:34.35 to take sixth.

In its only race of the day, Navy's fourth varsity boat placed second behind Georgetown with a time of 7:48.58.
