ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Winning its fifth-straight match, the 15th-ranked Navy squash team dealt 17th-ranked George Washington a 7-2 loss Wednesday evening at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts in Annapolis. The Mids have won each of their last three matches by 7-2 counts, including last night's contest against No. 16 Columbia.

"We've definitely had a test the last six or seven days against some strong teams," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson. "We played exceptionally well in the 4-9 matches tonight."

Occupying the No. 4 slot Wednesday evening was freshman Hunter Abrams (Wilmington, Del.), who defeated GW senior Adam Pistel in straight sets, 11-9, 11-3, 11-8. Abrams owns the team's longest winning streak, earning victories in each of the last 10 matches.

Fellow rookie Colin Barry (St. Louis, Mo.) cruised to a 3-0 victory over junior Sam Ehrlich at the No. 5 position, improving to 16-3 on the year. Falling in at the No. 6 spot was junior Billy Abrams (Wilmington, Del.), who has also put together a fine streak of wins. He scored his eighth-straight victory with an 11-2, 11-0, 11-7 win over GW's Player Haynes.

Team captain John Tracey (Owings Mills, Md.) continues to be one of the most successful players under Dawson's watch. Tracey picked up an 11-0, 11-8, 11-5 win over C.J. Bell at the No. 7 position and improved his career record to an impresive 47-7 mark.

Junior John Richey (West Hartford, Conn.), meanwhile, has more wins over his career than any other player on the Navy roster. He added a victory Wednesday night be scoring an 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 win over GW's Larkin Brinkworth at the No. 8 spot.

Rounding out the ladder was sophomore Hunter Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), who dealt freshman David Moxley an 11-5, 12-10, 11-4 loss.

Meanwhile, rookie Jim Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.) had to fight his way to a victory after finding himself down two matches to none. George Washington senior Jose Calderon turned in back-to-back victories, 12-10 and 11-6, but Kacergis won the next three, 11-5, 11-8 and 11-8, to take the match at No. 3. Kacergis is now 15-2 on the year, just one win shy of team leader Barry.

The Mids will be back in action on Sunday when they play host to Hamilton College beginning at 10:00 am.
