LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 15 Navy rifle team wrapped up its fall schedule on Saturday at No. 2 Kentucky where it fell to the Wildcats, 4697-4591. Kentucky bested Navy in smallbore, 2325-2266, and air rifle, 2372-2325. Navy is now 1-2 in duals this season, while Kentucky improved to 6-0.

Saturday's match was Navy's third consecutive away from home against a team currently ranked in national top-10 poll.

"Kentucky was strong in the air rifle today, but it should have been closer," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We know what we're capable of, but we just haven't done it these past few weeks. We're getting better, but it hasn't been showing up on match day lately."

Steven Frazier led Navy in both smallbore and air rifle. He shot a 573 in smallbore and tied Ryan Williams for the top Navy score in air rifle at 584.

Freshmen Jodi Cull-Host and Zach Gibson both competed in smallbore and air rifle. Cull-Host shot a 556 in smallbore and a 578 in air rifle, while Gibson fired a 568 in smallbore and 579 in air rifle. Shawn Cleary was the third Navy freshman to compete, shooting a 568 in air rifle.

"We're a young team and I thought the performance of the day was by Zach Gibson," said Kelley. "He has been very consistent in our matches this fall."

Gibson's 579 tied his season-high score in the discipline, a mark he has hit three times this fall.

UK's Emily Holsopple led all smallbore shooters with a 586 and the Wildcats' Henri Junghaenel shot a match-high score of 597 in air rifle.

With competition for the fall now complete, Navy will not return to action until Jan. 18, 2013 at the University of the Sciences.
