Navy-Temple Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team fell at home to Temple on Saturday, 334.9-326.3, in its final dual meet of the season. The Owls posted higher team scores in five of six events in improving to 5-0 in dual meets this season. Navy is now 2-2.
Competing in his last home meet, senior Andrew Faulk won his fifth-consecutive all-around title as he registered a score of 83.4 to lead all gymnasts. Faulk won the pommel horse (14.1) and placed second on the rings (14.1), parallel bars (14.0) and high bar (13.8).
The Mids had five freshmen compete in Saturday's dual, including Eric Viscardi, who posted a career-best 14.3 in the vault to tie Faulk for third place.
"We are improving, especially some of our young guys that have had to compete because of some injuries," said Navy head coach Dr. Sho Fukushima. "We were never solid from the beginning today, but yet I think they did well, especially with so many young guys competing."
As a team, Navy topped Temple in the parallel bars as it posted a season-high score of 55.2. Faulk (14.0); Aaron Ingram and Austin Zalik (13.8) and Chris Junghans and Jeff Sauers (13.6) all posted top-five scores in the event.
Junghans posted his second-highest all-around score of the year as he registered an 81.1. His best individual-event finish was in the high bar where he posted a 13.5, which was just 0.1 off his season-high score, to take third.
Saturday marked the Mids' fifth-consecutive week of competition and now their last until the USAG College Division Championships on March 30-31.
"The break coming up will be very nice," said Fukushima. "We'll take a couple days off and then come back and start all over to prepare for the USAG Championships."
