CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Tom Duvall's pair of wins highlighted the efforts of the Navy swimming and diving teams at the Nike Cup, which wrapped up its three-day competition Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Navy women's team placed fifth in the seven-team field, while the Navy men finished third out of six teams. In addition to the Mids and event-host North Carolina, other teams at the meet included East Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Old Dominion and the women's team from Georgia Southern.

Duvall won both the 500 free (4:22.51) and the 1650 free (15:19.15) and placed second in the 200 free (1:37.48) by just seven hundredths of a second.

Also for Navy, Jonathan DeBaugh would tie for fourth place in the 100 fly (49.03) and placed fifth in the 200 fly, Luke Hoffer finished in fifth place in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.07), Ben Freedman finished in sixth place in the three-meter diving event (319.70) and seventh in platform diving (215.90), Sean Murphy placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke (55.78) and Joe Esposito finished in sixth place in platform diving (346.30).

"I was really pleased with the way we came out on the last day of the meet," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "We raced well and competed well on all three days of the meet. That's a credit to the determination and ability of our guys to go up against strong competition."

On the women's side, Julie Jesse placed seventh in the one-meter springboard event (244.90) and Rachael Dudley finished in eighth place in the 1650 freestyle event (16:57.67).

Both Navy teams will next be in action December 12 when the Mids play host to Army in Lejeune Hall.
