ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams will resume their respective seasons this week when the Midshipmen travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to compete Saturday against Bucknell, American and Lafayette.

Navy's two teams have been off from competition since each played host to Virginia and the women's team also faced Yale on Oct. 25. The Cavaliers defeated the Mids that day, with the Bulldogs also topping the Navy women. The results of the meet gave the Navy men's team a 1-1 record this season and the women's team a 1-2 mark heading into this weekend.
"Our team has been working very hard over the past two weeks to make some improvements on their previous performances in October," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "We are looking forward to seeing where we are at in a competitive setting this weekend."
"We have had several very good practices since our last meet," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison. "We made some great adjustments and can't wait to get to racing again against some great league teams. This is always a strong, competitive meet with great teams, coaches and a good venue at Bucknell. We definitely have some challenges to overcome, but we expect our team to respond very well."
Last year's meet between the four teams was slated to be held at Lafayette. However, the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the Lehigh Valley led to the meet instead being contested at American and without Lafayette's participation. Navy's two teams combined to win 23 of the 32 events to help the Mids sweep both the Eagles and the Bison.
The Navy men's team saw eight Mids win an event during last year's meet. Of those eight event winners, five return for Navy this season. Those five are Tom Duvall (So., Durham, N.H.), who won the 200 and 500 freestyle events; Hugh Davison (Sr., Towson, Md.), the winner of the 100 free; Alex Nickell (So., Loveland, Colo.), who won the 1000 free; Wil Mayo (Sr., The Woodlands, Texas), the one-meter diving board winner and Ben Freedman (Sr., Kennewick, Wash.), who won the three-meter board.
Seven different members of the Navy women's team claimed an individual event victory last year, with four of those swimmers returning this year. That list includes Emily Brown (So., Gainesville, Fla.), who swept the two sprint free events; Rachael Dudley (So., Hoschton, Ga.), the winner of the 500 free; Zoe Macfarlane (So., Pensacola, Fla.), who won the 200 back and Rheanna Vaughn (Sr., Aliso Viejo, Calif.), who recorded the fastest time to win the 200 fly.
